Your BRP or digital visa

If you applied for a Student visa and your course is longer than 6 months, in most cases you will receive a BRP card (Biometric Resident Permit), which is your visa. Some students will receive a digital visa status or share code instead of a BRP card.

BRPs which expire on 31 December 2024

Your visa start and end date will be given on your visa decision letter or email confirming the dates, which you will receive from the UKVI when a decision is made.

If your BRP card expires on 31 December 2024, but your visa end date on your visa decision letter is after this date, this is because you will not need a BRP from 1 January 2025.

You’ll be able to prove your immigration status online. The UKVI will update their information on how to prove your immigration status in early 2024. You do not need to do anything and your immigration status will not be affected.

Applying outside of the UK

Those students who applied outside of the UK and who will receive a BRP card must collect it upon arrival in the UK.

When completing the visa application online, the application form will have asked you where you would like to collect your BRP. It is recommended you choose one of the local post offices the form suggests (based on the postcode of your institution).

When you receive a decision, the letter that comes with your vignette (the sticker in your passport which gives the dates you can enter the UK) will specify where to collect your BRP and the date by which your BRP should be available for collection. You do not have to make an appointment at the post office, but you must take your passport with your vignette and your visa decision letter with you.

Applying inside the UK

If you have applied for your visa inside the UK and your BRP was delivered to your home address, please email a copy of the front and back of your BRP card to isct@brookes.ac.uk.

If you have a digital visa status

Those students who used the UK Immigration ID check app will not collect a BRP. Their full visa is issued as an online digital status. See our Applying Inside the UK and Applying Outside of the UK webpages for further information.
