Right to Study checks

If you are not a UK national, please read the information on this page carefully.

Any students who are not UK nationals will need to send us a copy of their immigration permission or visa which allows them to study in the UK. You will not be fully enrolled until you have done this. It can be done before or after your online enrolment. The information on this page will tell you how to do this.

If you are a Student visa holder, your visa decision letter or email will state whether your visa will be a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) or a digital visa accessed by a share code.

All right to study checks must be completed by Friday 6 October 2023.

Student visa holders with a BRP

New students who have a BRP will need to see us in person at the Headington Campus either to collect or show the BRP. Right to Study checks will be completed at the same time. All student must bring their passport.

You can attend any of the following drop-in sessions without an appointment:

Between Monday 11th September and Thursday 14th September (weekdays only)
11.00am to 3.00pm
Student Central counter, John Henry Brookes Building, Headington Campus.
Between Friday 15 September and Tuesday 26 September (weekdays only)
11.00am to 3.00pm
The Executive Suite, John Henry Brookes Building, Headington Campus.
Between Wednesday 27 September and Friday 6 October (weekdays only)
11.00am to 3.00pm

Outside these times, please contact isct@brookes.ac.uk for an appointment. Please note that all Right to Study checks must be completed by Friday 6 October 2023.

Please note that BRP collection and Right to Study checks are not available on Saturdays and Sundays.

Students who are collecting their BRP from the University will need to bring their passport and visa decision letter. Students who are collecting their BRP from the Post Office should collect their BRP first and then bring it with their passport to us. Students who are collecting a dependant's BRP will need to bring their passport, their dependent(s)’ passport(s) and their letters from the UKVI confirming their visa.

Student visa holders with a digital visa or share code

Your visa decision letter will state if you can prove your status through a share code. You will then be able to generate a share code on the Government webpages: View and prove your immigration status. You can only travel to the UK from the start date of your visa. Once you are in the UK, please email the share code plus a copy of your passport and travel documents (flight ticket or boarding pass) to isct@brookes.ac.uk.

Please make sure that the title of your email is in the following format: Enrolment Sept 2023 share code student number 19XXXXXX.

You can only do your right to study checks once you arrive in the UK so please do not email us your passport and travel documentation before you travel.

Students studying on a Visitor visa - for programmes of less than 6 months

Please send a copy of your passport and travel documents (flight ticket or boarding pass) to isct@brookes.ac.uk once you arrive in the UK. If you have a vignette visa in your passport because you got your Visitor visa in your home country before you travelled, please also send us a stamped copy of this.

Please make sure that the title of your email is in the following format: Enrolment Sept 2023 visitor visa student number 19XXXXXX.

EU/EEA and Swiss students with pre-settled/settled status

Please send a copy of your passport and share code to isct@brookes.ac.uk. The share code can be generated here: view and prove your immigration status. Please make sure that the title of your email is in the following format: 'Enrolment Sept 2023 EU settlement share code student number 19XXXXXX'.

Students with other visas or immigration permission

Please send a copy of your visa or immigration permission and passport to isct@brookes.ac.uk. Please make sure that the title of your email is in the following format: ‘Enrolment Sept 2023 other visa student number 19XXXXXX’.

Students with Irish passports

Please send a copy of your passport to isct@brookes.ac.uk. Please make sure that the title of your email is in the following format: ‘Enrolment Sept 2023 Irish passport student number 19XXXXXX’.
