Announcement
We are happy to announce the launch of our new AI, Data Analysis and Systems (AIDAS) Institute. Get in touch and let's explore cutting-edge research and data analytics advancements together.
About us
The Artificial Intelligence, Data Analysis and Systems (AIDAS) Institute provides world-class technical expertise in manifold areas of artificial intelligence (AI), including machine learning and robotics, epistemic AI, computer vision, ethics, software engineering, cybersecurity and cloud.
By leveraging a profound understanding of foundational principles in AI and their diverse applications, we aim to translate our research advancements into impact in both industry and society through a mix of high-quality research, technology transfer and consulting initiatives.
From neuromorphic chips and uncertainty-aware predictions to software security designs and multi-objective reinforcement learning, we aim to push the boundaries of what is considered to be possible in artificial intelligence.

Research impact
Our Institute comprises 6 research groups, holding patents and running successful projects in a wide variety of artificial intelligence fields. Our Visual Artificial Intelligence Laboratory has a strong position in the field of deep learning for action detection and uncertainty theory, and is now pioneering frontier topics such as epistemic artificial intelligence, machine theory of mind, continual learning, neuro-symbolic AI, AI for science, evolving and universal AI.
Our Dependable Systems centre is known for the highest number of patentable IP within the University, among which an innovative chemical sensor architecture for sensing and ‘memorising’ the sensed data and pioneering method of encoding, decoding and locking data into a single memristive device for applications in security and authentication. We conduct extensive work in the cloud, cybersecurity and software engineering field with our Cybersecurity & Cloud and Software Engineering groups. Their work in the development of new software testing methodologies for AI applications and cutting-edge projects on big data management in NoSQL and cloud and network softwarization in cloud and IoT is highly recognised.
Our Machine Learning and Robotics Group conducts transformative work using the Criticality Analysis method in prevention healthcare for diabetes and on developing intuitive and safe reinforcement learning that allows for a balanced achievement of multiple objectives. Our Centre for AI, Culture and Society conducts foundational research on moral agents and social norms, while also pursuing and supporting ethical AI research of the highest quality.
