Your course induction

An introduction to your course and how you'll learn at Oxford Brookes University.

Induction Week is Monday 19 to Friday 23 January 2026. During this week, most courses will have their own schedule of events that you must attend. The majority of these will be on campus but there may be additional online events that you will need to attend or watch. Make sure to find your course induction schedule so you know where you need to be during Induction Week.

Your course induction is mandatory and should be your priority for this week. However, there are lots of additional, optional events happening over Induction Week and Semester 1. Everyone is welcome to join and take part in any of these sessions during their free time. Take a look at the events calendar to see what interests you.

To find your induction schedule you can enter your course title in the search box or look it up in the A-Z below.

Associate students

An associate student is a student who is studying one or two modules but is not registered for a university award (certificate, diploma or degree). Associate students are welcome to join their course's induction activities.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) students

CPD Associate students are students taking stand-alone modules which are not part of an award-bearing course such as an MSc. You will be contacted directly with details of your induction. If you are studying a health care module you will be able to view your course induction start date at the link below. You are also welcome to join the events open to all students.

Distance-learning students

If you are studying on an online/distance learning course, you should complete online enrolment but you are not expected to come to Oxford Brookes, unless your course contacts you. Your course will be in contact with all the details you need for your study programme.

Exchange and study abroad students

There is one induction schedule which covers all new exchange and study abroad students at Oxford Brookes. There are different types of events within the schedule. Some are mandatory for all students while others are only for students taking certain modules. There are also some recommended optional events listed. The schedule explains which are which, but if you need any help understanding your schedule, the Student Induction Team will be happy to help.

Global Banking School (GBS) students

If you are joining a course provided by the Global Banking School you will be contacted directed by GBS in regards to your induction and teaching. You can find more information about Global Banking School enrolment and induction here or email admissions@globalbanking.ac.uk with your questions.

Part-time students

Part-time degree students are welcome to join the appropriate induction for their course/module. Please note it is not compulsory for you to attend these induction events as we appreciate some part-time students have other working commitments. Some part-time students studying in healthcare will have an induction as part of their first teaching session and your course will be in contact with you about this.

Research degree students and professional doctorate students

Find out about enrolment and fees for research degree students.

The Research Degrees Team are available to assist with your queries.

Students joining part-way through a degree

If you're joining a course part-way through via credit entry, we understand that you will be new to Oxford Brookes even if you aren't new to university. We expect that you will benefit from the activities and support on offer during induction as you adapt to life at Oxford Brookes.

Many courses explicitly advertise induction schedules for credit entry students, such as the 'Final Year Entry' courses. If there isn't a specific induction schedule for you, or you have questions about your schedule, feel free to contact us at induction@brookes.ac.uk for advice.

You are more than welcome to join any of the general events for all students
